The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, is the world's largest medical library. The Library collects materials and provides information and research services in all areas of biomedicine and health care.
An 11 kDa protein associated with the outer membrane of many cells including lymphocytes. It is the small subunit of the MHC class I molecule. Association with beta 2-microglobulin is generally required for the transport of class I heavy chains from the endoplasmic reticulum to the cell surface. Beta 2-microglobulin is present in small amounts in serum, csf, and urine of normal people, and to a much greater degree in the urine and plasma of patients with tubular proteinemia, renal failure, or kidney transplants.
Industry:Medical
1) A diverse family of extracellular (e.g., laminin) and cell surface (e.g., NCAM) glycoproteins involved in cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix adhesion, recognition, activation, and migration. 2) Surface ligands, usually glycoproteins, that mediate cell-to-cell adhesion. Their functions include the assembly and interconnection of various vertebrate systems, as well as maintenance of tissue integration, wound healing, morphogenic movements, cellular migrations, and metastasis.

La parte di cervello che si collega al midollo spinale.
Industry:Medical
Divided into two equal lobes or parts by a median cleft <repair of a bifid digit>.
Industry:Medical
Not cancerous; does not invade nearby tissue or spread to other parts of the body.
Industry:Medical
To introduce carboxyl or carbon dioxide into (a compound) with formation of a carboxylic acid.
Industry:Medical
1) The sequence of purines and pyrimidines in nucleic acids and polynucleotides. It is also called nucleotide sequence. 2) Order of purines and pyrimidines in nucleic acids and polynucleotides. 3) The order of nucleotide bases in a DNA molecule. 4) The order of nucleotide bases in a DNA molecule; determines structure of proteins encoded by that DNA.
Industry:Medical
The process of making autoradiographs.
Industry:Medical
1) An autosome is any of the numbered chromosomes, as opposed to the sex chromosomes. Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes (the X and Y). Autosomes are numbered roughly in relation to their sizes. That is, Chromosome 1 has approximately 2,800 genes, while chromosome 22 has approximately 750 genes. 2) A chromosome not involved in sex determination. The diploid human genome consists of a total of 46 chromosomes: 22 pairs of autosomes, and 1 pair of sex chromosomes (the X and Y chromosomes).
Industry:Medical
Inorganic salts that contain the -HCO3 radical. They are an important factor in determining the pH of the blood and the concentration of bicarbonate ions is regulated by the kidney. Levels in the blood are an index of the alkali reserve or buffering capacity.
